The numbers were down from previous years, but there was still a lot of entries at the annual Foremost Fish and Game Association Measuring Day, held at the Foremost Community Hall on Saturday.
Ken Kultgen, Stacy Kultgen, both from Foremost, and Len Mueller, from Warner took on the measuring duties as participants gathered for some socializing.
With precision, the antlers were measured according to length, the symmetry was analyzed and the antlers weighed to see who would get the bragging rights for having the prize set.
Scott Suschinsky, from Yorkton, entered a record-book worthy head from a mule deer he snagged in Saskatchewan in November. The 239-6/8 gross measurement and 231-inch net measurement was enough to ensure an entry into the Boone and Crockett trophy book.
“We thought it would be close, but we didn’t think it would be this good,” said Suschinsky, who hunts with his college buddy, Foremost native, Blair Seward.
“In Saskatchewan, they have draws for mule deer and it takes about five years to be drawn, so I got real lucky,” he added.
Other entrants included an elk head measuring 30-5/8 inches across by Jared Roth.
While the typical entrants are antlers from deer and elk, the association also receives horns from big horn sheep and skulls from bears and cougars.
