Redcliff taxes Redcliff taxpayers will not see too much of an increase on their next tax statement, according to 2010 tax rates that was recently released. For residential properties, the tax rate has been set at 7.3110, about 5.99 percent lower than the City of Medicine Hat's tax rate for 2010. The rate for non-residential properties has been set at 13.78, about 25.51 percent lower than the city rate. The farm rate has been set at 13.22 for farm properties, 86.5 percent lower than the city rate and the rate for machinery and equipment is set at 6.502. "Each household should see no more than about a $50 increase, but it will all dependent on market value of the property. Market value has not gone down compared to sales value," said municipal treasurer, Vicki MacArthur. "There are two components to this; tax rate and assessment. When market value goes down, you have to increase taxes. It is kind of an inverse relationship," she added. The 2010 median assessed value for a residential property is $207,430, which with the 2010 property tax levy, works out to $1,516.52. The education property requisition for 2010 is $1.77 million, an increase of more than $78,000 from the previous year. According to MacArthur, the reason for this is mainly due to the addition of new tax payers in the annexed land areas. The impact on the property owners is minimal as the property owners are paying a portion of the education requisition. The Cypress View Foundation requisition for 2010 is budgeted at $133,100, an increase of $63,900 from the previous year. The increase is due mainly because of increased operation costs for the new wing of the facility and cost over-runs. |
