The renovations to the Bow Island Health Centre will be going ahead, and although an exact date hasn’t been announced yet, according to a communication between MLA Len Mitzel and Minister of Infrastructure, Ray Danyluk, information will be forthcoming “very soon”.
A flurry of phone calls took place between the Mayor of Bow Island, Alan Hyland, town councilor, Gordon Reynolds and MLA Len Mitzel following the announcement  that the government was going ahead with the improvements to the Medicine Hat Hospital, something the city has long awaited.
Bow Island’s hospital also had a project approved some time ago which has yet to go ahead, thanks to a combination of global economic downturn and bids that came in over-budget at the time. However, with the government announcing other hospital projects which had been on hold getting the go-ahead, the town’s municipal government officials wondered where Bow Island sits in priorities.
Mitzel explained that the funding coming through for Bow Island was not announced at the same time because the funding is coming from a different pot. Instead of through health, it is coming through infrastructure as capital for emergent projects funding.
“The Minister of Infrastructure plans on moving ahead with this project very shortly. Minister Danyluk toured with Alta Magee through the hospital, so he is totally aware of the hospital and the project,” Mitzel said.
He added the project should come in at around $5 million.
Further announcements should be made soon.
