The Commentator serves most of southeastern Alberta from its office in Bow Island, 56 kms east of Taber and 55 kms west of Medicine Hat on Highway 3. The area is divided into three distinct regions as the paper serves the Town of Redcliff, County of Forty Mile and Cypress County.
Redcliff is the greenhouse capital of the west while Cypress and Forty Mile are agriculture jurisdictions which have a diverse farm and ranch economy. The area has the advantage of having many different crops grown - allowing farmers access to different markets for their products. A drive through the area will show crops such as beans, sugar beets, potatoes, corn, sunflowers, canola and the usual grain crops. Some producers are even producing spearmint and minarda. Good highways and railway access allow producers access to markets throughout the country and the world.
The town of Bow Island is located near the South Saskatchewan River, just a few miles from where the Oldman River and Bow River meet.
